The FOLLOW ME APPEAL has been launched to help the street children who appear in "Easy Prey: Inside the Child Sex Trade", the CNN documentary which is also known in its longer version (produced for Channel 4 - UK) as THE CHILD SEX TRADE. We are trying to help a handful of children: Madalina, Laurentiu, Radu, Gabi, Vali, Cristi, Florin, Marius, George and Catalin. Without them, this film would not have been possible. These children have no families, or have run away from abusive parents. They have lived on the streets of Bucharest for most of their lives. Almost all of them have been the victims of Romanian and foreign paedophiles. In spite of all the harshness and aggression they suffer, they manage to remain extraordinary human beings - generous, playful and with a great sense of humour. Our first aim is to secure the immediate necessities for the children in terms of food, clothing and medical assistance. If enough money is raised, we intend to set up a foundation to address the long-term needs of these children. A holistic programme to solve their accommodation problem and to provide them with therapy, education and training is essential to give these children a chance for the future. Michelle Edwards, an Irish lady who lives in Australia saw the film on Channel 4 while visiting her parents in Ireland in October 2003. A month later she was on a plane to Romania to meet these children. She has teamed up with Anca, a Bucharest-based sociologist and former aid worker, and has launched the Follow Me Appeal. Since then Michelle has visited the country several times and has been actively helping Laurentiu, the main character in this documentary.
